Prof. Jandhyala B. G. Tilak

 

Second topper in BA, topper (Gold medalist) in MA in Economics from Andhra University and Ph.D. (in Economics of Education) from the Delhi School of Economics; Dr Tilak has been at the research and teaching faculty of the University of Delhi, at the Indian Institute of Education, at the University of Virginia and at Hiroshima University (Japan); He has also been on the research staff of the World Bank. Professor Tilak is a Visiting Professor in Economics at Sri Sathya Sai University; Honorary Visiting Fellow at the Centre for International Cooperation in Education, Hiroshima University; and has authored/edited ten books including the Economics of Inequality in Education, Education for Development in Asia (both by Sage Publications), Educational Planning at Grassroots (Ashish), India Socio-Economic Database (Tulika), Education, Society and Development (APH Publishers), Financing Education in India (Ravi Books), Women’'s Education and Development (Garg Publishing) and Financing of Secondary Education in India (Shipra Publications), in addition to about 250 research papers published in reputed journals, and in the series of working papers of the World Bank, UNCRD, IIEP, State University of New York, NCAER, etc. The honours and awards Professor Tilak has received include the prestigious Swami Pranavananda Saraswati National Award of the UGC in Education for his outstanding scholarly research (1999) and the Dr.Malcolm Adiseshiah Award for distinguished research contributions to development studies (2003). Among many other honours, he had the privilege of delivering a keynote address to a meeting of Noble laureates in Barcelona in 2005. Dr Tilak is a member of several official committees on education constituted by the Government of India and various state governments, and some international bodies. He is the Editor of the Journal of Educational Planning and Administration and is on the editorial board of several professional journals. He serves as a short term external consultant for the Asian Development Bank, World Bank, UNICEF, UNDP, UNESCO, SDC, etc. Professor Tilak served as Vice-President, and is currently President of the Comparative Education Society of India (2011-).
