Professor Lin Shangli


Professor Lin Shangli, born in Fuzhou in 1963, is the Vice President of Fudan University, Executive Vice Dean of the School of International Relations and Public Affairs, Fudan University.

In 1981, he studied at the Department of International Politics, and after graduation in 1988, he started his teaching career in the School of International Relations and Public Affairs, Fudan University. He became associate professor in 1993 and professor in 1997. He received a Ph.D. from the School of Law at Fudan University in 1998. He has been a visiting scholar at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Keio University of Japan, Georgetown University, Washington, and at the University of Munich in Germany. Between 1993 and 1994, he did research at The Chinese University of Hong Kong; between 1994 and 1995, he visited and did research at Keio University; and in 2003, he spent 4 months doing research at the University of Georgia. Currently, Prof. Lin also acts as a part-time professor of Suzhou University, at the East China University of Politics and Law, and at the East China University of Science and Technology. He is also a guest researcher of Shanghai CCP College and Shanghai Administration Institute, and vice chairman of the academic committee of the Institute of East Asia, Shanghai.

Prof. Lin’s research interests are in the field of political scientific theory, Karl Marx's political philosophy and Chinese politics. Recently, he has begun an analysis of traditional approaches and innovations in Chinese politics. He is researching the transitional economic system and the foundations of democracy in Chinese society. Having published numerous papers in various core journals and magazines, Prof. Lin receives wide attention and credit from the public for his points of view.
