The annual event is held as the part of the RHEC and SemyonovAward initiative. It is aimed at supporting and consolidating the cross-border community of early-career scholars in higher education. A session of four presentations each bring together early-career scholars and accomplished researchers to discuss prospective papers in the field of higher education. Each presenter receives comprehensive feedback on their research project from a discussant. The essential condition for participation is having the draft of a full paper submitted by the established deadline.

The applications including a full paper of 30,000–50,000 characters in English should be submitted by September 15, 2021. The successful candidates will be granted free participation in RHEC 2021.

Covid-19: we are aimed at face-to-face discussion; however, we cannot guarantee that seminars will be not switched to online mode. Due to limitations in international mobility, it would be almost impossible to organize an international flight, especially if you need a Russian visa.

Detailed information on the application procedure and conditions is available here.

Formation and Assessment of Universal Competencies of University Students

The symposium will be devoted to discussion on the conceptual framework of universal competencies: theoretical foundations of their formation and assessment, best educational practices and factors related to their development and conditions created at the university level.

During the symposium, the following questions will be discussed:

  • Should the list of universal competencies be the same for all universities? If so, what should be included in it?
  • What place do the practices of developing universal competencies occupy in the educational program of the university?
  • What conditions should be created at the university for the formation and assessment of universal competencies, and who is responsible for their creation?
  • What are the requirements for professors responsible for the development of students' universal competencies? What programs for the development of teaching excellence related to development of universal competencies are offered by Russian universities?
  • What pedagogical technologies contribute to the development of universal competencies, within which disciplines are universal competencies formed, how to better structure the content and organize extracurricular activities?
  • How to assess universal competencies at different levels - at the level of the university, educational program, separate class?

Round Table “Management of Digitalization of Education in a Pandemic: Challenges and Best Practices”

The session is centered around the experience of universities that are part of the Evidence-Based Digitalization for Student Success consortium in transforming the educational process in the face of a forced accelerated transition to distance learning. We will discuss the results of one of the projects of the consortium dedicated to the study of the teaching formats used during the stay-at-home period, learn about the experience of each consortium university, and find out which of the new practices are planned to be integrated into the post-pandemic education by those universities.

Participants:

Coordinators of member universities of the consortium "Evidence-Based Digitalization for Student Success"

The panel session “Contributions of higher education: towards a common cross-cultural conceptual perspective”

This session will present the outcomes of the international research project “Contributions of higher education to society and economy”. The project objective is the development of new conceptual approaches to the analysis and measurement of multiple contributions of higher education. The project addresses higher education contributions to society, labour market, public policy, culture, research, social outcomes, student self-formation, global development and climate change among others.

Round Table "Regional Analytics and Policy of Higher Education"

Strengthening competition in Russian regions not only for talented students, but for young people in general, necessitates the search for non-standard management solutions. Against the background of changes in the university admission rules, a revision of the distribution of target enrollment figures, a deterioration in the financial situation of many families, a change in the educational trajectory of young people, an intensification of educational migration and total digitalization, a deliberate formation of a university recruitment strategy is the key to success. As part of the round table, we will discuss the consequences of these changes, subsequent management decisions and the results of their implementation in Russian universities. Within the framework of the round table, a series of analytical reports on regional systems of higher education will be presented.

Round Table “A Promising Model of Additional Professional Education of a Regional University”

The round table will be dedicated to a discussion about the possibility of creating a universal model of additional professional education, which can be replicated in any regional university, taking into account its industry affiliation. We will discuss the basic tools for the participation of regional universities in the implementation of national projects, present the best practices for increasing the share of income from additional professional education in the structure of the university budget, propose the best system for promoting such programs at a regional university, assess the need to identify and consolidate the sectoral competitiveness of the university in the Russian continuous education market and visualize the image of a promising model of continuing education in regional Russian universities.
